In the 19th century Britain and czarist Russia battled for control over central Asia. During the cold war Afghanistan developed close ties with the Soviet Union. On August 20, 1998 the U.S. launched cruise missiles to destroy terrorist training complex in Afghanistan. In September 2001, a suicide bomber kill legendary guerrilla leader Ahmed Shah Masoud. On October 7, after Talibain wouldnt give up Bin Laden U.S. allies would have daily air strikes on Afghan military bases and terrorist training camps.
Afghanistan has a very bad relationship with the U.S. because of all of the terrorist attacks.
